Man killed while pumping gas

By Brandon Masuoka
Advertiser Staff Writer

A 24-year-old man was fatally injured this morning in an accident at a gas pumping station in Kaimuki, police said.

The accident occured at about 8:06 a.m. at the Aloha gas station parking lot, 3625 Harding Ave., near the corner of Harding and Koko Head avenues, police said. The gas station is near a Handi Pantry Store.

Police said the man was filling gas into his blue Honda Civic when a red four-door Ford Taurus, driven by a 82-year-old man, pulled up ahead and suddenly reversed, striking the man.

The victim was pinned between the Taurus and a pillar, police said. He suffered extensive chest injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center where he later died, police said.

Police said they are investigating whether the accident was caused by mechanical failure or driver error.
