Service today for Xiana Fairchild

By Scott Ishikawa
Advertiser Staff Writer

A local service for Xiana Fairchild, the 7-year-old former Hawaii girl whose body was found last month in California after being reported missing for more than a year, will be held at 4 p.m. today.

Xiana Fairchild, 7, had been missing in California since early 1999. Her body was found Jan. 19.

The service will be held at the Salvation Army at 296 Vineyard Blvd., at the corner of Vineyard and A
ala Street.

Fairchild had been missing since Jan. 9, 1999, after reportedly walking to a Vallejo school bus stop. Her disappearance sparked a nationwide search with thousands of volunteers and businesses getting involved.

Her skeletal remains were found Jan. 19, 60 miles away from her home and later positively identified through DNA testing.

Fairchild’s great-uncle Sisto Domingo said the Hawaii service gives local family and friends "a chance to come and celebrate Xiana’s life."

Domingo said his family has been updated twice a day on the case, which has been classified as a homicide. Those seeking more information on today’s service may call Domingo at 833-7769. A memorial service in Vallejo, Calif. for Fairchild drew about 800 people.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Xiana Fairchild Foundation, P.O. Box 9266, Vallejo, CA 96891.
