Punahou School graduate Parker McLachlin, playing for UCLA, shot 74-224 to finish in a tie for 10th.

Awards also will be given to male and female athletes of the year in high schools, adults and seniors, as well as the sportspersons of the year and coach of the year.

RUNNING

Chang earns World berth: Victoria Chang, Stanford freshman from Honolulu, took second place yesterday in the Junior Women’s championship race at the Winter Cross Country Nationals in Vancouver, Wash.

Chang, a 2000 Punahou School graduate and the 1999 national cross country champion, earned a spot on the USA Track and Field Junior National team for the World Championships at Dublin, Ireland, next month.

Chang controlled the pace for most of the junior women’s 6K championship, but Laura Zeigle and Alicia Craig remained in contact the entire way, and Zeigle broke away for the victory in 21 minutes, 18.4 seconds on the third 2K lap.

Chang finished in 21:30.3, followed by Craig in 21:46.6.
