Schedule problems postpone concert

Saturday’s "Uncle Tom’s Dance Party," which was to feature Johnny Rivers, Little Eva and Gary "U.S." Bonds, has been postponed. The dance concert was set for 7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. But a problem with the show’s schedule forced promoter Tom Moffatt to postpone the event; a new date has yet to be set. Refunds may be obtained through Ticket Plus. Information: 526-4400.


Pati, Native Blend join Marley show

Pati and Native Blend have been added to the Bob Marley Tribute Concert at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Blaisdell Arena. The event features previously announced Aswad, Mikey Dread, Rocker T, Fully Fullwood Band, Humble Soul, Maacho, and Ooklah the Moc. Charge by phone: 526-4430.


Backyard jam marks drug-free month

A Hawaiian-Style Backyard Jam, featuring some of Hawaii’s top acts and up-and-coming newcomers, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kakaako Park. Performers will include Kapena, Hoonua, Jon Yamasato, Koauka, Local Born, members of Wave Riders Against Drugs and disc jockeys Lanai and Augie T. of Island Rhythm 98.5. The event marks Drug-Free Hawaii Awareness Month and will feature food, information and celebrities, in addition to music. Information: 545-3228.


MPI is readying A Chorus Line’

Mid-Pacific Institute’s School of the Arts will present the Tony Award-winning musical, "A Chorus Line," starting Friday at Kawaiahao Recital Hall on the MPI campus in Manoa. Curtain time is 7:30 pm. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, through March 11. Tickets: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. Reservations: 973-5066.


Maestro Samuel Wong to speak at dinner

Maestro Samuel Wong, conductor of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, will discuss the healing power of music at the March 16 fund-raising gala of the Aloha Medical Mission, from 6 p.m. at the Coral Ballroom, Hilton Hawaiian Village. Wong, who also is music director of the orchestra, is a Harvard-trained opthalmologist who believes that music can reach deep into the soul and promote physical and emotional wellness. The talk will follow dinner and a performance by the Punahou School Symphony Orchestra. No-host cocktails start at 6 p.m. Tickets: $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000 for a sponsor table of 10, $125 per person. Information: 593-9696.
