Johnny Cash released from hospital

Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Singer Johnny Cash was released yesterday from the hospital where he was treated for pneumonia, Baptist Hospital spokeswoman Jessica Etz said.

The country music legend thanked fans for all "their prayers and thoughts,'' and said they helped his recovery. He said he planned to watch the Grammy awards show from home.

Cash won his 10th Grammy during last night's ceremony. He was honored for best male country vocal performance for "Solitary Man.''

Cash, 68, had been hospitalized since Feb. 11.

The singer suffers from autonomic neuropathy, a disease of the nervous system that makes him more susceptible to pneumonia. He was also treated for pneumonia in October 1999.

Cash's hits include "A Boy Named Sue,'' "Folsom Prison Blues,'' "I Walk the Line'' and "Sunday Morning Coming Down.'' He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
