KIHEI, Maui A 54-year-old Kihei woman died early yesterday morning after she lost control of her four-wheel Honda sedan and it ran into a wall.
Police said Jeanne Adele Finer, a facial and skin care professional, was driving north on South Kihei Road at 12:15 a.m. when her car jumped the curb, flipped and hit the hollow-tile wall fronting the Kihei Villas condominium complex just north of Walaka Street.
Paramedics rushed the woman to Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku, where she died. Whether speeding or alcohol played a role in the accident is still being investigated, police said.
Finer, a 15-year resident of Maui, had operated a business, Pure Pampering by Jeanne Adele, for the last two years in space rented out of Hair Today, a salon located a few hundred feet from the accident site.
Dik Benson, owner of Hair Today, called Finer a top-notch skin-care professional who was well liked by her customers and dedicated to her job. He said she was active in the community, volunteering and donating her services for fund-raisers.
"She was a very giving person, he said.
Sudha Scott, owner of Wailea Massage and Body Care, said her former employee was an outgoing person with a "caring, outrageous personality.
"She gave excellent facials and had a very good reputation, Scott said. "Its so sad.
Police said that with Finers death, Maui has had four traffic fatalities this year, compared to two for the same period last year.
