Trade Winds


MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL has added three area directors to its management team:
  • GERALD OKAMOTO, former director of engineering for the chain’s Kauaii and Maui properties, was appointed area director of engineering for all Marriott Resorts Hawaii properties. He is also director of engineering at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort, overseeing engineering and landscaping functions.
  • JIM PALANK has been named area director of leisure sales for the Pacific Islands area, responsible for both east- and westbound tour operators at all Marriott Hawaii properties. Palank is also Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort director of marketing. He was most recently, Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel director of sales.
  • MARI OLSON, director of human resources at the Maui Marriott Resort and Ocean Club, has also been named Marriott International’s Pacific Islands area director of human resources, overseeing Marriott resorts in Hawaii and Guam.

Commercial real estate veteran DENNIS WIENS has joined GRUBB & ELLIS/CBI as managing director, responsible for office administration, recruiting and agent training.

DAWN TAMASHIRO has been promoted from human resources assistant to human resources manager of HAWAIIAN BUILDING MAINTENANCE, a facility maintenance service provider with offices on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.

LESLIE PASKETT, a 25-year veteran of First Security Corp. in Salt Lake City, has joined BANK OF HAWAII as senior vice president and controller. Also hired was BRUCE GLOR, as senior vice president and manager of the bank’s Private Client Services, managing sales and service teams offering private banking, investment, trust and insurance to the affluent. He was previously senior vice president and managing director of integrated wealth management organization, Bank One, Indianapolis, Ind.

SHANTEL BURNS, former customer service/event coordinator for ASTON HOTELS AND RESORTS HAWAII, has been promoted to sales events manager, overseeing all the company’s sales events, locally and nationally.

Former city Traffic Violations Bureau manager MILTON HEE has been named chief operating officer for HAWAIIAN REPAIR AND REMODELING, serving Kauai, Maui and Oahu. Hee is also former co-chairman of the state Judiciary Department’s executive committee on technology.

JAMES M. (MATT) SMITH JR., former chief operator at Honolulu’s H-Power Plant, has been named assistant controller for ALEXANDER & BALDWIN INC., responsible for corporate accounting, payroll, consolidations and financial reporting. Most recently, he was Ernst & Young audit manager.

ASHOK "ASH" KHANNA, travel industry veteran of Cove Enterprises and American Express Travel Services, has been named general manager of the MAGIC OF POLYNESIA and ALOHA LAS VEGAS REVIEW shows in the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. The productions are subsidiaries of Roberts Hawaii Inc.

RICHARD S. WOLFF has been named vice president and corporate controller of CASTLE & COOKE INC., as the company goes private, consolidating existing privately held companies. Wolff was most recently controller and manager of informational systems for an ITT Industries subsidiary.

CHRISTINE IDEUE has been named marketing and product development manager for RENDEZVOUS TOURS, responsible for vendor relations, new program development and total marketing efforts.

JOLIE JEAN COTTON has been named Hawaii regional advisor for the SOCIETY OF CHILDREN’S BOOK WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS.
