Tripler project goes online
The Pacific e-Health Innovation Center at Tripler Army Medical Center has gained government acceptance for its Theater Telemedicine Prototyping Project after conducting trials on Oahu. The telemedicine project uses the Internet to provide health care consultations by specialists to remote clinics.
Tripler Army Medical Center now has the capability to serve any military health care facility as a referral center. Akimeka LLC and Micro Clinique Ltd., developers of the Theater Telemedicine Prototype Project, installed the programs.

Iwo Jima anniversary
Marine veterans of the 1945 battle for Iwo Jima spoke here Friday to recall their experiences.
Richard Fiske and Donn Lewin, both survivors of the battle, spoke at Camp H.M. Smith on the 56th anniversary of the Marine taking of Iwo Jima and the flag-raising atop Mount Suribachi.
The flag-raising was captured by photographer Joe Resenthals photograph and a statue of the image is at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Washington
Now, a sculpture of that flag-raising is being cast for placement at the entrance to Marine Corps Base Hawaii-Kaneohe Bay by the Pacific War Memorial Foundation.

Retired officers name leaders
Retired Army Lt. Gen. Allen Ono of Honolulu and retired Army Col. Les Ihara of Kaneohe have been named leaders of the Aloha Chapter of The Retired Officers Association.
Ono serves as chairman of the board. Ihara is chapter president.
The Retired Officers Association membership includes active, National Guard, Reserve and retired officers of the armed services and their surviving spouses.
