HPU softball pitchers shut out Montana State

Advertiser Staff

Jessica Parra and Malia Sullivan pitched shutouts yesterday as Hawaii Pacific swept Montana State-Billings, 4-0 and 5-0, in a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader at HPU’s Windward campus field.

Parra (5-0) allowed two hits and struck out a season-high nine in the first game. She hasn’t allowed an earned run in 28 innings and carries a 0.39 earned-run average.

Tascha Berinobis’ grounder to third scored Ashelle Acosta in the third inning with the only run Parra would need. Kim Fukumoto added an RBI single later in the inning.

Sullivan (5-0) permitted one hit — a double by Meghan O’Donnell in the third inning — and had a season-high five strikeouts.

Once again, Berinobis hit a grounder to score Acosta with HPU’s first run in the first inning.

The Sea Warriors improved to 10-0, all in the PacWest, in defeating Montana State-Billings, which was playing its first games in school history.
