Doctors optimistic about Jones' recovery

Warriors ready for spring drills

While remaining in guarded condition in The Queen’s Medical Center critical-care unit, University of Hawaii football coach June Jones is breathing on his own fulltime and able to respond to questions and speak in short sentences.

But he is sedated, and has not been asked yet about the incident that led to the single-car accident last week.

"He’s a long way from being out of the woods," family spokesman Artie Wilson said. "But the doctors are optimistic his recovery will be good."

Jones is being fed intravenously, and is allowed brief visits from immediate family members and a few close friends. His parents, brother and two sisters arrived from the Mainland last weekend.
