Lyndi Frei and Summer George pitched complete games as Brigham Young-Hawaii swept a nonconference womens softball doubleheader from visiting Montana State-Billings, 5-2 and 6-0, yesterday.
Frei (1-4) spaced six hits and struck out six in the first game. Holly Harn had two hits, including a two-run single during a four-run third inning that broke a 1-1 tie.
George (2-3) scattered seven hits, struck out three and did not walk a batter in the second game. It was her second shutout of the season.
Lyza Halas had two RBIs and Alisha Durette had three hits, stole three bases and scored twice.
BYUH improved to 3-7; Montana State-Billings fell to 0-4.
BYUH will play host to Hawaii Pacific (10-0) in a doubleheader Thursday at 2 p.m.
FITNESS
Hawaiis strongest: Odd Haugen, two-time winner of Hawaiis Strongest Man, dominated the field to win the 2001 Fitness Expo at the Blaisdell Center last weekend.
Debbie Bowman won the womens title.
Haugen, 51, won six of eight events in the strongman competition.
Events included lifting one end of a 700-pound car off the ground, pulling a 14-ton truck 25 yards, carrying two 275-pound cylinders for 60 yards, and racing with a 1,600-pound wheel barrow for 30 yards.
Bowman won all three women events, including pulling a 6,500-pound truck.
TAI CHI
Free lecture: Sifu Eddie K.Y. Wu, a fifth generation Wu style Tai Chi Chuan master, will give a free lecture Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the University of Hawaii art auditorium.
