Here's what will be open or closed today, New Year's Day


Federal, state and county offices: Closed.
Public schools: Closed.
UH: closed.


Libraries: Closed.
TheBus: Running on the Sunday schedule. Call 848-5555.
On-street parking: Free except for meters on Kalakaua Avenue, along Kapi
olani Park. Permitted in towaway zones that allow it on holidays.
Traffic: No coning.
Trash: No refuse collections; landfills and convenience centers will be closed.
Open Markets: Not in operation.
Municipal golf courses: Closed.
City Recreation Centers: Closed, except Ala Wai,
Ewa Villages and Ted Makalena Golf courses, open 7 a.m.-1 p.m. (18-hole reservations: 7-11 a.m.; nine-hole reservations: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Mail: No delivery or mailbox pickups, express mail delivered.
Handi-Van: Holiday hours, with pickups 6 a.m. to midnight with reservations only. Call: 456-5555 (24-hour notice).
Humane Society: Closed.
Blood bank: Closed.


Banks: Closed.
Savings & loans: Closed.
Stock market: Closed.


Academy of Arts: Closed.
Arizona Memorial: Closed.
Bishop Museum: Open.
Botanical Gardens: Closed.

Iolani Palace: Closed.

National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl): Open.
Pacific Aerospace Museum (Honolulu airport): Open.
Polynesian Cultural Center: Open.

Senator Fong’s Plantation & Gardens: Closed.

Fireworks by Grucci, midnight, Honolulu Harbor (Aloha Tower Marketplace offers good views, or find a suitable vantage point); live music simulcast on KSSK, from 9 p.m. till countdown, from Piers 8 and 9; free. 566-2337.

Beach fronting Kahala Mandarin Oriental, midnight. Public may view fireworks from the beach. 739-8888.
