Richard von Gnechten, manager of financial services, has been promoted to financial services vice president at Hawaiian Electric Co. Von Gnechten replaces Paul Oyer, who retired after 35 years of service. Von Gnechten joined HECO in 1991 and previously held positions as manager of customer service and director of strategic initiatives.
HECO also announced the promotion of Lorie Ann Nagata to treasurer. Nagata has 18 years experience in accounting and finance at HECO. She previously was assistant treasurer and manager of management accounting.
Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo has appointed Donald G. Lee and Gregory Coghill to managing directors of the Honolulu and Newport Beach offices, respectively. Lee joined the architectural, planning and consulting firm in 1965. Coghill joined the company in 1983.
First Hawaiian Bank has promoted Gerry Keir from senior vice president to executive vice president of corporate communications at the bank. Keir joined First Hawaiian in 1995.
First Hawaiian also announced the following officer promotions:
Wayne H. Matsumura to manager of the banks Mililani branch. Matsumura joined the bank in 1994 as a loan representative and was promoted to assistant branch manager in 1998.
Linda B. Cornejo, senior vice president, to senior vice president and deputy manager of the branch loan administration division.
Curt T. Otaguro, senior vice president, operations research and development, to senior vice president of the operations research and development division and deputy manager of the Information Management Group.
Joyce W. Borthwick, vice president of the residential real estate division, to vice president and chief compliance officer of the compliance department.
Koren K. Dreher, senior vice president of the commercial real estate division, to senior vice president and manager for private banking.
David R. Sage to assistant vice president and security officer, Security Department.
Margaret J.N. Heine to service manager, Ward branch.
Claudia E.A. Namoca to service manager, Moanalua branch.
Pacific Century Financial Corp. and Bank of Hawaii announced six new promotions:
Derek Norris, general auditor, promoted to senior vice president and audit services division manager.
Mary Sellers, credit review manager, promoted to senior vice president responsible for managing Pacific Centurys credit review activities.
Alexander Jamile, manager of institutional sales and marketing, promoted to senior vice president responsible for managing and directing institutional and labor management sales and marketing for Pacific Century Trust.
David Munson, manager of the international private banking department, promoted to senior vice president responsible for managing the department that offers specialized banking and investment services.
Tom Zimmerman, manager of residential loan origination,
promoted to senior vice president responsible for managing the banks residential loan origination efforts.
David Zerfoss, manager of the Asset Management Group, promoted to senior vice president responsible for managing the investment units portfolio and 36-member staff.
Stephen H. Cunningham has been named director of catering and conference services for the 539-room Orchid at Mauna Lani on the Big Island. Cunningham is responsible for the overall operation of the conference center and catering department. He also oversees the banquet department.
ADP (Automated Data Processing) has appointed Cheryl Kalaau as district manager for small and medium-sized businesses. Kalaaus responsibilities include expanding ADPs business in Hawaii by targeting the small-business market.
Wendy Lee Cook has been named an associate at architectural firm Group 70 International Inc.
Pacific Marine Life Foundation has elected George I. Atta and A. Warren Duryea to its board of directors. Atta is vice president and chief community planner at Group 70 International; Duryea heads the accounting firm bearing his name. They join seven others in overseeing the nonprofit organizations research, education and conservation activities.
Donna Goth has been elected the new president of the Land Use Research Foundation of Hawaii. Goth succeeds Wally Miyahira, a director for Castle & Cooke Inc. Goth is director in charge of Hawaii properties for the Campbell Estate.
