Benjamin and Jeanie Lai of Honolulu celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise dinner given by their children and grandchildren on Dec. 2, 2000, at Hoku’s Restaurant at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental. The Lais were married Dec. 7, 1950, in Japan, and they have three children - Steven, Bernadette and Allen - and three grandchildren. Benjamin and Jeanie Lai are retired.

Theopholius K. O‘Neal III of ‘Aiea celebrated his first birthday with a luncheon given by his parents, Theopholius and Vaughnelle O‘Neal, on Jan. 13 at Buffet 100 in ‘Aiea. Theopholius was born Jan. 10, 2000.
