Contestants, give yourselves a hand. You deserve it.
Seventy-six of you submitted entries for The Honolulu Advertisers sportswriter for a day contest, which was open to high school students from grades 9 to 12.
Students were asked to write a 500- to 750-word essay detailing why they should be selected for the "job."
You didnt make it easy on us. In fact, the top two entries were judged by at least 10 journalists.
But we selected a winner and three runners-up. All have been notified, and their names will be printed in Saturdays Advertiser.
All four will be introduced at the NFLs Official Media Luncheon noon Friday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
The winner will interview a Pro Bowl player during a practice and write a story for The Advertiser.
All four winners will receive four tickets to the Pro Bowl, along with other items.
Congratulations to all who entered, especially those from the class of Elaina Malaki of St. Andrews Priory. Malaki made the contest part of a class project.
Thanks for your participation, and we hope to read your work again next year.
