Students from the Kailua High School science and boating program will pay tribute Sunday to the lost crew members and students of the Ehime Maru training ship, which sank off Oahu after the submarine USS Greeneville slammed into it in a Feb. 9 accident.

Nine crew members and students remain missing.

Science and boating teacher Todd Hendricks said his students were saddened especially because another group of Japanese boating students from a different school had been their guests. The Kailua students exchanged ideas and training techniques with students from Miyazaki High School.

Students will collect lei and take them to a spot off Waikiki for a service, in the school boat Lehua 2. The Eala, a 40-foot double-hull sailing canoe, may also join the students.
