Four University of Hawaii Wahine volleyball players and four football players were named to the 2000 academic all-Western Athletic Conference teams.
A total of 172 fall student-athletes were named to the list, including 19 from UH.
The four Wahine were Jennifer Carey, Veronica Lima, Andrea Gomez-Tukuafu and Lily Kahumoku.
The four football players were David Gilmore, Michael Iosua, Robert Morgan III and Hyrum Peters.
Wahine soccer had the most for any sport nine players, including seniors Camille Kalama, Megan Lytle, Demarre Sanchez, Leila Wai and Lea Wakabayashi.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the teams contests.

FOOTBALL
Norwood at Penn State: Brian Norwood, a former Radford High and University of Hawaii football player, has joined Penn State as an assistant coach.
Norwood, who leaves Texas Tech, will coach defensive backs for the Nittany Lions.
"It is a great blessing and privilege to coach at Penn State," he said. "The Penn State football program has great tradition and I look forward to working with Coach (Joe) Paterno and his great staff."
Norwood was a defensive back for the Rainbows from 1983-87 and graduated with a degree in communications. He played a season in the Canadian Football League. He also coached at Arizona, Richmond and Navy.
SOFTBALL
BYUH hands HPU first loss: Lyza Halas drove in four runs and Summer George scattered 11 hits as Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Hawaii Pacific, 5-1, in the second game of doubleheader at Laie.
The loss ended a season-opening 11-game winning streak for HPU, which won the first game, 6-3, in eight innings.
BYUH is 4-8 overall and 2-8 in the Pacific West Conference. HPU is 11-1 and 9-1.
FUNDRAISER
Irish Fry at Murphys: Murphys Bar & Grill and Gusto Magazine are hosting their 4th Annual Irish Fry, March 10 from 10 a.m to 1 p.m.
Traditional Irish dishes, including Murphys traditional corned beef hash, will be served.
All proceeds will benefit Coaches vs. Cancer, an annual fundraiser sponsored by the University of Hawaii basketball program.
The brunch is $20 per person. For information call 531-0422.
