MUST-SEE: Miss USA pageant, 8 p.m., CBS: On its 50th anniversary this pageant tries to revamp itself. The performers, Sisqo and The Warren Brothers, are reasonably young and hip. In addition, the show wants to spotlight the candidates in a more interesting way. The young women will be shown in zestier settings, including a beach. Editor’s note: The Islands’ candidate is first-time pageant entrant Christy Lynn Leonard, a Hawaii Pacific University student from Lahaina, Maui.

  • Men’s College Volleyball, 7 p.m. KFVE: Stanford at University of Hawaii.
  • "Providence," 7 p.m., NBC: Richard Romanus arrives as a visiting doctor who takes an instant interest in Syd.
  • "Soldier" (1998), 7 p.m., Fox: Dumped on a distant planet, Kurt Russell finds himself at war with genetically engineered supersoldiers.
  • "Dragonslayer" (1981), 3 p.m., AMC: A well-made film about a youth who tries to save the world from a dragon.
  • "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC: The Internal Affairs department investigates the handling of a case involving a policeman’s runaway daughter.
