Kanekapolei Sydney Fernandez Fasi, daughter of the late Kane S. Fernandez, has been elected to the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, replacing her father, who died in January and who was an active board member for the past two decades.

The Kamehameha Schools Varsity Cheer Team won fourth place at the National High School Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fla. The team competed against 62 teams nationwide in the small varsity division. The team members are: Lisa Abalos, Roelle Hoohuli, Theona Kapoi, Danielle Kauwalu-Key, Giselle Kim, Michele Kim, Shawna Lee, Emi Manuia, Ashley Manzano, Summer Maunakea and Crystal Miyamoto.

The Quarterly Board of Management of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, met in Washington, D.C., and approved the founding of a new chapter, the Hawaii Loa Chapter, on the island of Hawaii. It will be the second chapter in the state. The officers are: Janet E. Sing of Kamuela, regent; Patricia Macomber of Keaau, vice regent; Dianne Simmons of Waikoloa, treasurer; Barbara Iwami of Hilo, recording and corresponding secretary; Natalie Baer of Holualoa, registrar; Katya DeLaMatier of Hakalau, historian and librarian; and Mildred Winans of Hilo, chaplain.
