University of Hawaii head football coach June Jones remains in satisfactory condition and has been moved from the intensive care unit at The Queens Medical Center, according to Dr. Neil Fergusson, the hospitals trauma surgeon and attending physician.
Jones was critically injured in a one-car accident on the H-1 Freeway Feb. 22. He underwent surgeries to repair injuries to his aorta and abdomen.
He has since made what Fergusson has called a "remarkable recovery."
On Monday, Jones underwent a successful minor surgery to repair a fractured right elbow and was resting comfortably. He is able to sit up, walk and eat.
Jones and his wife, Diane, e-mailed an open letter to The Advertiser yesterday.
In the letter, the Joneses say they are "overwhelmed by the warmth and love all of you continue to provide us during this challenging time. ·
"We humbly ask for your continued prayers and well-wishes but (ask that) you refrain from coming to the hospital. ...
"Now is the time for June to focus on his recovery and for our family to reserve our strength for him."
It was the second request by the Jones family for privacy.
In a letter distributed to the media Feb. 28, Jones parents and siblings thanked everyone for their support and also asked people to limit their visits.
According to a press release from The Queens Medical Center, only family members will be allowed to visit Jones during the coming weeks.
