Parade to cause street closures


Floats to snake along Kalakaua as tradition comes alive at festival

Today’s Honolulu Festival parade will run along Kalakaua Avenue from Lewers Street to Kapiolani Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Kala-kaua Avenue will be closed from the Kuhio/Kalakaua Avenue junction to the Waikiki Shell parking lot on Monsarrat Avenue. All vehicles will detour onto Kuhio Avenue.

Beginning at 4 p.m. and for the duration of the parade, Lewers Street and Kalia Road will both be converted to two-way traffic.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., all side streets along Kalakaua Avenue will close progressively during the parade.

Restricted-parking signs will be placed from 3 p.m. along Kapahulu Avenue, Kalia Road, Lewers Street and Leahi, Monsarrat, Ohua and Seaside avenues.

There will be city bus route detours starting from 3:30 p.m. in the Waikiki areas of Kalia and Saratoga roads, and Ohua, Monsarrat and Kalakaua avenues. For bus information, call 848-5555.
