Advertiser Staff

Yokozuna Musashimaru and Takanohana won matches on the opening day of the 15-day March Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka, Japan, today.

Musashimaru, Waia-nae’s Fiamalu Penitani, lifted and pushed out Kyoku-tenho. Takanohana won a hard-fought battle with Tochiazuma.

Akebono (Waimanalo’s Chad Rowan) announced his retirement in January after nearly 14 years in the sport and attaining the top rank of yokozuna (grand champion).
