JOINT SERVICES

Team seeks MIA remains in Laos

A team of 53 mostly Hawaii-based military specialists left Wednesday for Laos seeking to recover remains that may lead to the identification of American servicemen missing in action since the Vietnam War.

The team — from the Joint Task Force-Full Accounting; the U.S. Army’s Central Identification Laboratory, Hawaii; and the Joint Field Operating Base, Hawaii — is conducting investigations with representatives from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

NAVY

Firm to give Navy demo

Honolulu company Science & Technology International will send 16 workers to exercises at Camp Pendleton, Calif., on Wednesday.

The company will demonstrate its ability to detect minelike objects in shallow waters. STI entered a five-year, $50 million research-and-development contract with the Navy in December 1999 for its hyperspectral imaging system.

The exercises end April 5.

AIR FORCE

Hickam home repairs continue

An $80 million program to renovate homes at Hickam Air Force Base is scheduled to end in October. Once complete, 534 homes will have new interiors.

Homes that aren’t in immediate need of replacement but haven’t had any work for a substantial period will receive less major interior work. Over the coming year, 166 homes will receive remodeled bathrooms and kitchens.

Beginning in 2002, the 15th Civil Engineer Squadron switches from renovation to the tearing down and replacing of entire units.

Moving overhead power lines underground in two stages is also planned.

ARMY

Wolfhounds’ mark 100th

The 27th Infantry Regiment "Wolfhounds" celebrate their 100th anniversary next month. In recognition of the anniversary, the regiment will stage events April 25-27, including a regimental induction ceremony at Sills Field, Schofield Barracks on April 26 and a memorial service at the Main Post Chapel on April 27.
