Ige pleads no contest to election spending charge

Advertiser Staff

Former state Sen. Marshall Ige pleaded no contest today to a campaign spending charge.

In reaching the plea agreement, defense attorney Michael McCarthy said the attorney general’s office agreed Ige’s actions were “merely technical campaign spending violations.” McCarthy previously characterized the charges as “piddly” misdemeanor accusations “which are the same thing as a parking ticket.”

Ige was accused of filing false campaign spending reports related to his 1998 campaign.
