Timothy Goshi, a student at the University of Hawai'i, is a recipient of the 2001 Hawaiian Cement Scholarship and Internship, which is awarded in conjunction with the UH College of Engineering. Goshi will receive a $2,000 scholarship for each of the next two years and will also work as a full-time engineering intern at Hawaiian Cement this summer.

Canon USA Hawaii announced the winners of the 2001 Amateur Photo Contest. The top five winners, selected from among 350 photo entries, are: Kevin Matsumoto of Kane'ohe, first place; G.J. Suzuki of Hilo, second; Aimee Holcomb of Kailua, third; Chris Borke of Honolulu, fourth; Renee Frabott of Kailua, fifth.
