Young girls invited to 'work'

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

This program reinforces the meaning of "girl power."

In an effort to expose girls to a grownup work environment and to help ensure that they stay strong and remain confident in themselves, adults are encouraged to bring the young girls in their lives with them to work on April 26.

The ninth annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day is a national public education campaign geared toward girls between the ages of 9 and 15.

Rori Lindo-Britton, advancement director of the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii, said the event is basically a day for girls to have an opportunity to "take an inside peek into the world of work."

Despite the name of the day, the event isnêt limited to daughters. Men and women may also bring their granddaughters, nieces, neighbors or young friends.

For information on how to take part in the program, which is organized by Ms. Foundation for Women, or to order special Take Our Daughters to Work Day materials, visit www.takeourdaughterstowork.org or call 1-800-676-7780.

However, you don't necessarily have to sign up anywhere to take advantage of the day. All you have to do is invite that young woman in your life to spend a day in your world.
