Weddings

Melissa Jo Garves, daughter of Michael K. and Debi Garves of Kailua and Pauline F. Garves of Maine, married Allan Edward Bigtas Jr., son of Allan Kondo of Kohala and Evangeline Sumic of Kohala, on Feb. 17 at Sea Breeze Restaurant at Hickam Air Force Base. The reception followed at the restaurant. The bride (1997 University of Hawai'i-Manoa bachelor's), now Melissa Jo Bigtas, is a social worker and graduate student at UH-Manoa. The groom (1987 Kohala High, 1999 UH-Manoa bachelor's), formerly of Kohala, is a social worker and graduate student at UH-Manoa. They live in Honolulu.

Paula T. Vierra, daughter of Sam and Carmen Vierra of Honolulu, married Brannon S. Quartero, son of Mel and Remy Quartero of Honolulu, on Feb. 17 at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park. The reception followed at Fook Yuen Seafood Restaurant. The bride (1987 McKinley High), now Paula T. Quartero, is a group coordinator for a travel company. The groom (1986 McKinley High) is a construction worker. They live in Honolulu.

Engagements

Sarah K. Baker of Sachse, Texas, and Kyle M. Sawai of Kane'ohe have announced their engagement. They plan to be wed June 30.

Olivia Ellen McDermott and Matthew Joseph Hekili Ramie have announced their engagement. McDermott, of Kane'ohe, formerly of Alameda, Calif., is the daughter of Julie and Casey Zuk of Alameda and Brian McDermott of Alameda. Ramie, of Kane'ohe, is the son of Ron and Carol Ramie of Kane'ohe. Olivia McDermott and Matthew Ramie plan to marry April 22.

Monica Hiromi Sasaki and Kris Tetsuya Yasuda have announced their engagement. Sasaki, of Honolulu, daughter of Richard and Naomi Sasaki of Culver City, Calif., is a program manager. Yasuda, of Honolulu, son of Keiko Yasuda of 'Ewa Beach, is a high school teacher. They plan to be wed June 30.
