No. 4 Cal romps past UH in water polo, 9-1

Fourth-ranked California shut down the University of Hawai'i's offense and scored in every period to win its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo match last night, 9-1.

Before about 100 at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex, the sixth-ranked Wahine (14-6) fell to 1-5 in the MPSF. All their conference losses are to higher-ranked teams. Cal (13-7) is 6-3 in the MPSF.

Hawai'i doesn't play at home again until April 21, against Pacific. The MPSF Championships will be at UH April 27-29.


COLLEGE BASEBALL

UH-Hilo rained out again: For the second consecutive day, the Western Athletic Conference baseball game between San Jose State and Hawai'i-Hilo at Hilo's Wong Stadium was postponed because of rain.

The Spartans won the series opener, 7-0, on Thursday. The two games will be made up when the Vulcans travel to San Jose. The scheduled three-game series is May 3-5. When the rain outs are made up, UH-Hilo will be the "home" team.


MEETING

QB Club: University of Hawai'i Wahine Water Polo coach Shari Smart will be one of several featured speakers at tomorrow's weekly meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at the Pagoda International Ball Room.

Joining Smart will be Paula Powell, the volleyball coach and coordinator for the Keiki Leleu; Mike McCartney, CEO for Hawai'i Public Television; and Mark Zeug, executive director of Aloha State Games.
