Wahine softball team splits with Loyola-Marymount

Advertiser Staff

Stacey Porter and Kate Judd homered and Desiree Duran hurled a complete- game shutout to lead Hawai'i over Loyola-Marymount, 4-0, in the nightcap of yesterday's doubleheader in Los Angeles. The Wahine dropped the opener, 3-0, spoiling a six-hit, complete-game performance by pitcher Felicity Witt.

Hawai'i (31-12, 3-1 WAC) got all the runs it needed in Game 2 in the fourth and sixth innings. Porter sparked the scoring with a two-out single to left in the fourth. Judd, who finished 2-for-3 after going hitless in Game 1, followed with a two-run home run.

The Wahine got two more in the sixth when Porter smashed a home run to right, scoring Tyree Woodruff, who had reached on an inning-opening single. Porter was 5-for-7 in the two games.

Loyola-Marymount (23-15, 2-6 WAC) threatened in the sixth when Kim Bissett and Christy Cerecedes opened with singles. But Duran (8-4) put down the next three batters in order on a popup, flyout and groundout, to end the inning.

Jaime Lyons (0-3) took the loss for Loyola-Marymount, allowing four hits and four earned runs.
