Strip club, bars target of city cleanup

By Robbie Dingeman
Advertiser City Hall Writer

Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris said today he will condemn six parcels of land across from the Hawai'i Convention Center as the first step in beautifying the dense urban area that surrounds the center.

The parcels now have low-rise commercial buildings, most of them built in the 1950s. One business that would be affected would be Club Rock-Za, a popular strip club. No one at the club could be reached for comment today.

The land Harris wants to condemn is on the west corner of the intersection of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapi'olani Boulevard. The City Council must approve the condemnation.

Harris has said residents and visitors deserve improvements so they don't have to deal with the problems of "the bars, with noise and with prostitution and drugs and it's time we just did something about it."
