UH freshman WAC Player of the Week

Hawai'i's Cortland Wilson was named Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for helping the Rainbows to a second-place finish in the Rainbow Easter Tournament.

Wilson, a freshman infielder/designated hitter from Sandy, Utah, started six games and batted .542 (13-for-24), including a home run, three doubles and 10 RBIs.

Hawai'i's Sean Yamashita was nominated for Pitcher of the Week.


MORE BASEBALL

HPU falls: Bryan Erstad batted 4-for-5 to lead a 21-hit onslaught as Wichita State trounced Hawai'i Pacific, 13-0, yesterday at Rainbow Stadium.

Erstad also drove in three runs and Dustin Hawkins added three hits for the Shockers (20-11).

Ben Keiter (4-3) pitched two-hit ball over five innings, striking out three and walking none for Wichita State.

Bryce Uegawachi and Ikaika DuPont each had two hits for the Sea Warriors (16-19).


SAILING

Massachusetts-bound: The University of Hawai'i coed and women's sailing teams will participate in the Friis Trophy Team Race this weekend in waters off Medford, Mass.

Joining UH, the only school to represent the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association, and host Tufts University will be Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Connecticut College, Dartmouth, Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Hobart/Williams Smith.

Hawai'i's Wahine team is ranked No. 4 and its coed team No. 13 in the latest Sailing World magazine coaches' poll.
