Alaska tours coming soon

Anchorage-based Hawaiian Vacations Inc., which has spent almost 20 years shuttling Alaskans to the beaches of Hawai'i on Hawaiian Airlines charter flights, will begin marketing Alaska tours to Hawai'i residents in hopes of filling more of their seats, the company said yesterday.

The company operates round-trip nonstop flights between Anchorage and Honolulu twice a week in the summer, three times a week in the fall and four times in the first quarter. It hopes to add a third weekly flight in summer if demand from Hawai'i picks up.

The 5 1/2-hour nonstop flights use a DC-10 wide-body aircraft carrying 300 passengers. Hawaiian Vacations has no plans to open an office in Hawai'i but will market its new product via local travel agents.
