Hawai'i's school teachers have a rallying song aimed at Gov. Ben Cayetano, composed and performed by a middle-school teacher who belongs to popular contemporary Hawaiian band Imua.

David Dunaway, a Jarrett Middle School teacher, last week dashed off the lyrics to "Mr. Governor" in 20 minutes; in the song, he asks the the governor to support his school teacher peers.

"The words pretty much came first, then the melody," said Dunaway. "We hit the recording studio last weekend, in order to provide the song to radio."

Five stations — KSSK-AM/FM, KINE-FM, KCCN -FM, KDNN-FM — have aired the song, with quick and positive reaction from listeners.

"We were really surprised at the reaction," said Dunaway. "Even Neighbor Island radio stations want the song."
