Flash flood watch on for Kaua'i, canceled for O'ahu

Advertiser Staff

Unstable weather conditions launched thunderstorms near Kaua'i and Ni'ihau and rain over O'ahu today.

National Weather Service forecaster Roy Matsuda said O'ahu would be wet, but should not have any flooding today.

"We expect some rain this afternoon and over night on O'ahu, but it should not cause a severe flooding problem," he said.

A flash flood watch raised for O'ahu early today was canceled later this morning.

Kaua'i County, however, was expected to remain under a flash flood watch throughout the day.

Matsuda said thundershowers were just off Ni'ihau to the west during the late morning and were expected to move onshore during the day.

Matsuda said a high elevation low-pressure area west of Kaua'i this morning has been causing the rainfall.

The system was weakening and was expected to move over the western islands today and on to O'ahu tonight.
