Tip-Off
Benefit concert May 20 for 'Ohi'a Productions

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Editor

"Once Upon a Star," a benefit concert for 'Ohi'a Productions, will be held at 5:30 p.m. May 20 at Leeward Community College Theatre.

The event will showcase the works of Lisa Matsumoto and Roslyn, creators of the "Once Upon One Time" trilogy of pidgin musicals and "The Princess and the Iso Peanut " comic fable, and doubles as a fund-raiser for their next endeavor, the musical "On Dragonfly Wings." Matsumoto is the playwright, Roslyn is the composer.

The evening will include excerpts from the duo's popular works, as well as pupu and a silent auction, to raise money for the upcoming production of "On Dragonfly Wings" at Leeward Theatre, where it premieres next July 13.

"Wings" and a companion book, "Wailana the Waterbug," on which the musical is based, were inspired by the story of Island youngster Alana Dung and her valiant battle against leukemia. "Wings" is a celebration of the human spirit and Alana's legacy of hope and inspiration despite daunting odds.

Tickets: $1,250 (Constellation, group of 10, including a commemorative CD); $100 (Shooting Star), $75 (Shining Star) for individual seats.

Reservations: ohia@ohia.com or 486-4444.
