Walking workshop on tap

 •  A springboard to healthier life

The Queen's Heart Institute will hold a walking workshop featuring racewalking expert Barbara Steffens on Sunday at 8 a.m. at Kahala Park.

Steffens, a racewalking athlete and founder of Great Strides Honolulu, will share tips on proper walking technique, shoes, safety and staying motivated.

The workshop, offered as part of the institute's ongoing Healing Heart program, is free to Queen's Heart Institute coupon book holders, $7 for all others.

• Pal offers clinics: The Police Activities League (PAL) Opening Day Ceremony will be held April 14 at the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The ceremony, which starts at 9:30 a.m., is followed by clinics in baseball, basketball, volleyball, football and fastpitch softball, being held by past and present UH athletes.

• Boating safety: Those interested in attending a certified course to learn about boat handling and safety equipment should attend The Coast Guard Auxiliary's boating safety course.

On April 28 and May 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Coast Guard will teach participants about boat handling, safety equipment, aids to navigation, knots, boating problems, trailering, anchoring, and storing and protecting your boat.

Classes will be held at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
