Child abuse prevention campaign kicks off tomorrow

In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii and Partners for Prevention this month are sponsoring an educational campaign of activities for all ages.

  • Tomorrow, 6-7:30 p.m.: Family Night, with informational booths, keiki activities and games, Pearl Harbor Kai Elementary; free.
  • Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.: "Without Spoiling or Spanking" workshop, Pearl City Community Center; free.
  • Thursday, 6-8 p.m.: "Loving Discipline of Young Children" workshop, Moanalua Community Center; free.
  • April 21, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: Spring Fest, with informational booths, keiki activities and games, Richardson Field; free.
  • April 21-22, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: Great Keiki & Teen Fest, with informational booths, keiki activities and games, Ala Moana Beach Park; free.
  • April 27, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.: Child Abuse Prevention Conference, Hawai'i Convention Center; registration: $50.

Other monthlong events include:

  • "Family Matters": A campaign to increase the awareness in Hawai'i schools of child abuse. Informational packets were sent out to principals, teachers and students at public and private schools statewide.
  • Blue Ribbon Campaign: As a reminder of the need to prevent child abuse, blue ribbons that symbolize the bruised body of an abused child, as well as informational bookmarks, are free and available at various locations including all Shell gasoline stations, Costco locations, Blockbuster Video stores, and public and private schools statewide.
