Woman dies in collision with garbage truck

An elderly woman was killed today in McCully when her car slammed into a City and County garbage truck, police and fire officials said.

The accident happened shortly before 5:08 a.m. in the 1900 block of South King Street near Pumehana Street when a Toyota Tercel driven by the woman collided with the garbage truck, officials said. Fire officials said the woman was in her 80s.

Three men onboard the garbage truck were not injured, fire officials said.

Police closed all but one lane of South King Street to investigate the accident. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
