Ishigo leads O'ahu to state AJA baseball title

Corey Ishigo batted 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, and Walt Grilho went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs as O'ahu defeated Hawai'i, 9-6, in the championship game of the Hawai'i State AJA Senior Baseball Tournament on Sunday at Aloha Stadium.

Hawai'i led 5-3 after four innings, but O'ahu struck for three runs in the fifth and three more in the six.

Richard DeSa gave up five runs in five innings for the win. Brad Buenconsejo gave up one run in four innings for the save.

In the third-place game, Chad Llego and Jeff Murray combined on a three-hit shutout as Maui defeated Kaua'i, 6-0.

Llego struck out six over four innings and Murray fanned three over the final two innings.

Ian Fujimoto batted 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Maui.

Ishigo was named the tournament's MVP.


SOFTBALL

PacWest's bests: Hawai'i-Hilo pitcher Taysha Anderson and Brigham Young-Hawai'i hurler Lyndi Frei have been selected the Pacific West Conference's co-Players of the Week.

Anderson pitched a pair of three-hitters against Chaminade. In 14 innings, she allowed just one earned run.

Frei pitched a four-hitter to defeat Hawai'i Pacific, 1-0.
