Smooth talkin'
The early bird gets the smoothie: From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, you can score a free 24-ounce
smoothie from any Hawai'i Jamba Juice store. During those hours, local stores will give each customer a free smoothie as the stores collect contributions to benefit the Kapi'olani Children's Miracle Network. Money raised will benefit programs and units at the medical center as well as other community children's programs such as the Hawaii Asthma Camp and the American Cancer Society's Camp Anuenue.

Honored for humility
At the ninth annual Celebration of the Arts at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua this past weekend, kumu hula Mapuana Koahou Yasue and fisherman/taro farmer Eddie Ka'anana, both of O'ahu, were honored with the Namahanaika-leileokalani Award of Excellence. The award, named for the late caretaker of Mauna'ala Mausoleum, Lydia Namahanaikaleileokalani Maioho, recognizes practitioners of Hawaiian arts who have contributed with such humility that they are little known.
But, as a tearful kumu hula Hokulani Holt-Padilla testified in handing out the Ni'ihau-shell award leis, though less well known, they are no less appreciated.
"We didn't have any idea," Ka'anana said, also in tears.
Auntie Lydia attended the celebration annually, and was adviser to the event, which exposes visitors to Hawaiian culture.

On the Mainland, white bras are the best-selling color, black is No. 2 and nude is No. 3. In Hawai'i, nude is No. 1, black is No. 2 and white is No. 3. Perhaps it's because we've figured out something they haven't: Nude bras work better under whites and light-colored clothes than white bras do.

Speaking of bras...
The San Francisco Bay Area's clash of competing bra ball sculptors reaches a new level when the second of the underwear artworks goes on display today on a trailer outside the Pier 23 Cafe.
"It's like 'Battle of the Bra Balls,' " says conceptual artist Nicolino, whose yarn-roll of bras hooked one to another and wrapped round and round will number 14,000 undergarments.
Nicolino got the idea during a collaborative phone discussion with artist Emily Duffy last October. The two later had a falling out, both claiming the idea as their own. Duffy displayed her bra ball in March.

The latest e-mail scare comes with the heading "Not a Joke," and a scary warning to wash your grocery cans or die like a hapless stockroom clerk in Hawai'i. But it is a hoax.
The e-mail tells the story of a clerk who was ordered to clean out a storeroom, then got sick and died after being exposed to rodent droppings.
