The Left Lane
Witless in Paradise

Leeward O'ahu's Paradise Cove is the backdrop of tonight's "Luau Edition" of the game show "Street Smarts," 10 p.m. on KFVE. The show poses trivia and pop culture questions to passers-by, referred to as "street scholars." Then, back on the Mainland, in-studio players watch the taped quizzing and try to predict which street scholars will prove smart and, as the studio execs put it in a press release, which are "a few flowers short of a lei." Names of players weren't released but, judging from a partial transcript, at least one street scholar wasn't too Island-akamai: "What is the capital of Hawai'i?" he was asked. "Waikiki," he replied cluelessly.
