Advertiser Staff

Eight females from Hawai'i finished among the top seven places at last weekend's USA Wrestling National Championships in Las Vegas, earning the right to compete at the World Team Trials June 21 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Clarissa Chun, a 1999 Roosevelt High graduate who attends Missouri Valley College, took third place — the highest finish by a Hawai'i entrant, in the 101?-pound division. Chun won the third-place match by a technical fall after losing her semifinal, 9-8.

Jill Remiticado, a 1999 'Iolani graduate who pioneered girls wrestling in Hawai'i high schools, took seventh place in the 123?-pound class.

"Wow, I get to be one of them (entrants in the World Team Trials). Last year when I went to this tournament, I didn't even make it to the second day of competition," said Remiticado, a sophomore at Pacific University in Oregon.
