Senate confirms Alm as judge

The Senate yesterday unanimously confirmed the nomination of former U.S. Attorney Steven Alm as a Circuit Court judge.

Alm fills the vacancy left by former Circuit Court Judge Kevin Chang, who was appointed a federal magistrate.


Ige trial moved to Sept. 24

Former state Sen. Marshall Ige's expected May 14 trial on felony theft, money laundering and attempted tax evasion charges has been rescheduled to Sept. 24.

Ige is expected to be at a separate hearing Tuesday on charges of inaccuracies in campaign spending reports.


Free parking offered at UH

University of Hawai'i-Manoa students can park for free at two places during weekend makeup class sessions.

About 1,200 spaces will be available at the lower campus parking structure until 4:30 p.m. About 150 spaces will be available in the lot by the Center for Hawaiian Studies between 6:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
