A group of recent paintings and collages by Jacqueline Chun is exhibited in the library at Hawaii Tokai International College, seemingly not the most convenient venue to visit but actually surprisingly easy to get to.

The library is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Calling ahead will get you access to guest parking, but so will a stop at the security office at the front entrance.

The library's limited display space puts many of the paintings in the glare of light from windows, and some are too high to be comfortably viewed.

But despite these limitations (which would be difficult to overcome were the art of lesser quality), this varied show is well worth a visit.

Chun's works are in several styles: watercolor landscapes and seascapes, abstract oils on canvas, a figurative painting in acrylic on paper, and both abstract and figurative watercolor collages.

It is the last work that is especially interesting, with layers of collaged papers of varying textures painted with luminous watercolors. Here, pattern, texture and color interact in carefully organized, vibrant compositions.
