Plays encourage imagination

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

Two plays by Honolulu Theatre for Youth may help your children learn about imagination and confidence. The plays will be on Saturday at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Beach Park.

"Come and See the Peppermint Tree," for ages 3 and up, invites kids to explore the make-believe world; performance times are 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

"Beyond the Falls," for ages 4 and up, is about Michio, a koi; timid Michio is friendless until an old crayfish teaches him to look within for confidence. Shows are at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Saturday performances of each play are $10 for adults; $7.50 for high school and college students (with ID); $5 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors; children 2 and under are free, but require a ticket.

The public also is invited to join school audiences to view "Beyond the Falls" at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Monday through Friday and April 30. Tickets for adults and children are $4. Officials said if the teachers' strike were to continue beyond April, further scheduled public performances on May 5 and 12 would be canceled. For information or to order tickets, call 839-9885.
