You can help a school and have fun at the same time by attending the Spring Fun Fair, organized by the Ka'a'awa Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association for May 19.
The event, to be held 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the school's campus, is free to the public, and will feature keiki activities and games, including inflatable jumpers, caricature drawings, coconut-weaving lessons, storytelling and horseback rides.
There will also be a silent auction with merchandise and gift certificates donated by the Disney Store, Hilton Hawaiian Village and Windward Mall, to name a few, as well as a white elephant rummage sale with furniture, clothing and other items from area residents.
Other activities include a plant sale, bake sale, food, entertainment and much more.
"The main goal is to bring the community together and to have a fun event," said Chryssa Jones, event co-chairwoman, "and if we can raise money for the school, that's even better."
Proceeds from the event will be used for outdoor lighting for the school's parking area and the school's new Family Learning Center, which provides computer access and training at no charge to the community.
Proceeds also will help pay for school supplies and equipment, and musical instruments, and will help defray the costs for student field trips and other activities. The event will be held on May 19 no matter what happens with the teachers' strike, organizers said.
