Owls win ILH regular season title

Ricky Bauer pitched a two-hitter to lift Mid-Pacific to the Interscholastic League of Honolulu regular season baseball championship with a 7-0 victory over Pac-Five yesterday.

The Owls, who earned a state tournament berth, finished the regular season with an 11-3 record and a five-game winning streak. Pac-Five is 4-10.

Bauer struck out four and walked none, and allowed singles in the first and fifth inning.

Catcher Matt Inouye was 3-for-3, including two triples, and scored three runs for MPI.

The game was a makeup of a rainout, and played at Ala Wai Field.

The ILH begins its double elimination tournament Thursday to determine its other state berth.

ILH GIRLS BASKETBALL

• KAMEHAMEHA 53, SACRED HEARTS 39: Tai Soo scored 16 points and Megan Ching 15 to lead the Warriors to their fourth consecutive victory.

Kamehameha is 9-1, a game behind league-leading Punahou. Sacred Hearts is 4-6.

Soo scored five of her six field goals in the first half.

Kamehameha led 27-19 at halftime, but the Lancers closed to 33-28 after three quarters. Kamehameha outscored Sacred Hearts 20-11 in the fourth quarter, led by Ashley Ruff and Ching who each had five points.

Brittney Aiwohi scored 14 points to lead Sacred Hearts.

ILH GOLF

• Warriors, Buffanblu win titles: Kamehameha's boys earned the league's team championship yesterday with a victory at West Loch Golf Course in the regular season finale.

The Warriors' Christian Akau won medalist honors with a 3-under-par 69. Kellen-Floyd Asao of Hawai'i Baptist took second with a 70, and Eric Fong (Kamehameha), Brandon Lee (St. Louis) and Matthew Ma ('Iolani) each tied for third with a 73.

Kamehameha and second-place 'Iolani earned the league's two berths for next month's state tournament.

The top 40 individuals in scoring average (best four rounds) will advance to the ILH championship tournament. The first 18 holes will be played tomorrow at Makaha West, then the field will be cut in half for the final 18 holes at Wai'alae Country Club on Wednesday.

Aside from Kamehameha and 'Iolani, the top 13 individuals in scoring average (after tomorrow's round) will earn individual berths to the state tournament.

Punahou won the ILH girls team championship yesterday at West Loch. The girls championship tournament also will be held at the same times and places, with tomorrow's field including the top 16 individuals.
