Theocharidis named the MPSF Player of Year

Hawai'i sophomore outside hitter Costas Theocharidis was named the MPSF Player of the Year by the league's coaches, it was announced yesterday.

UH setter Kimo Tuyay and Long Beach State middle blocker Scott Touzinsky were selected as co-Freshman of the Year, while BYU's Carl McGown was the MPSF's Coach of the Year.

Theocharidis and junior libero Vernon Podlewski were selected to the All-MPSF first team. Also named to the first team were senior setter Hector McKenzie, senior middle blocker Scott Bunker and junior outside hitter Mike Wall of BYU; junior middle blocker Eric Helenihi of UC Irvine; and senior opposite hitter Dave McKenzie of Long Beach State.

Hawai'i junior middle blocker Dejan Miladinovic made the second team, while sophomore outside hitter Eyal Zimet was a third-team selection.

Tuyay and senior middle blocker Brenton Davis received honorable mentions.

Punahou graduate Scott Wong, a junior outside hitter from Pepperdine, made the second team.

Hilo's Josh Day, a sophomore middle blocker for Southern California, was an honorable mention.
