Tong three-peats at USA Judo Nationals

Olympian Amy Tong of Honolulu won her third straight USA Judo senior national women's championship last night in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Tong, 23, won the 78 kilogram (171.6 pounds) division final by a yuko (45-degree arm throw), third highest scoring of four throws.

Tong, who was a 1999 collegiate champion for San Jose State, was eliminated from the Sydney Olympics with a 1-2 record last September.

Christian Aarona of Honolulu lost the bronze medal match at 100kg (220 pound) and finished fifth in the men's division.


BASEBALL

Komine strikes again: Nebraska junior pitcher Shane Komine struck out nine in a complete-game performance to lift the Cornhuskers to a 6-4 Big 12 baseball victory over Texas A&M at College Station, Texas, last night.

Komine (10-1), a Kalani High graduate, pitched a 10-hitter, and held the Aggies to a run until the ninth.

Komine pitched his fifth complete game of the season and 13th of his Nebraska career .


FOOTBALL

UH tickets on sale: University of Hawai'i football season tickets for UH students and faculty/staff go on sale today at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.

The box office will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. After today, the ticket sales continue Monday-Friday at the Stan Sheriff box office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Campus Center box office from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Student tickets are $77 (sidelines and north endzone), $135 (sidelines) and $117 (north endzone for guests.)

Faculty/staff tickets are $104 (sidelines and north endzone), $135 (sidelines) and $117 (north endzone for guests).

Valid ID is required for each season ticket purchase.

SOFTBALL

Wahine sweep Tulsa: Desiree Duran and Felicity Witt pitched shutouts to lift the University of Hawai'i to 3-0 and 6-0 softball victories over Tulsa yesterday in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Sand Springs, Okla.

The Wahine (40-16) have won their last eight and are 10-4 in the WAC. Sixteenth-ranked Fresno State (33-17) took an 8-3 conference record into last night's doubleheader against San Jose State.

Duran (14-4) won her seventh consecutive decision, tossing a three-hitter in the opener. Freshman April Crowell went 3-for-3, with a two-run homer.

Witt (19-10) pitched a four-hitter and Kate Judd launched two homers ö for the second time in a week ö with one landing 260 feet away and the second hitting the flag atop the left-field flag pole.

The teams play another doubleheader today.
