Perry & Price stretch lead in morning radio ratings

It's getting to be old hat for radio's top dogs, Michael W. Perry & Larry Price. The KSSK-AM/FM personalities have slightly improved their standing as Hawai'i's most-listened-to radio personalities, while the FM station clinged to the No. 1 spot.
The spring Arbitron survey, just out, reflects minor ups and downs, with Kriss Hart and Chris Reiser, the morning drive team, moving up the ladder to the No. 2 spot, bumping Billy Van Osdol and Charley Espina of KCCN-FM, to fifth in ranking.
And though Frank B. Shaner and Brickwood Galu-teria of KINE-FM also were down a skosh, as were AugieT and Lanai on KDNN-FM, they all still managed to finish in the top five. At one point, Augie T and Lanai were No. 2.
Rick Hamada's KHVH-AM talk show, absent from recent morning-drive surveys, squeaked back into the Top 10, giving credence to talk radio.
With radio consolidation (the trend toward single owners owning multiple stations) still in vogue, traditional rivalries and competition are a thing of the past. Further, Island rhythm the prevailing music of the local recording industry is the overall winner, with at least a half dozen stations programming the sounds.
